Rangers legend Ally McCoist admits he would be surprised if Billy Gilmour returned to his former club on loan in January.
McCoist believes it would be a good move for him and that he would get plenty of action despite Steven Gerrard having a crowded midfield, but reckons Chelsea will keep him instead.
The Scottish Under-21 youngster has been linked with a move to Ibrox following his Champions League man of the match game for Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Frank Lampard has admitted he doubts if he will let the teenager leave Stamford Bridge in January, although he has admitted that he wants to help him enter Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad.
But McCoist told talkSPORT, “Look, he would definitely be involved with some really, really good players.
“Rangers midfielder… Steven Davis, Joe Aribo, Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack – great footballers.
“He would fit in perfectly because he is a very good footballer himself.
“It’s about whether he and Frank would sit down and say, ‘Go see the Rangers, take some play time.’
“I’m not sure that will happen because I think he will have playing time with Chelsea.
“Looking at last night’s performance it is clear that he is a boy who works hard, trains hard and wants to soak up whatever information comes his way.
“I would be surprised if he doesn’t get more playing time at Chelsea.”
