HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Indian team leads Pakistan, England and New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship standings.
  • Rohit Sharma & Co. are ranked 4th in the current WTC rankings.
  • Aakash Chopra has explained how the Indian team can qualify for the Test World Championship Finals.
Apart from the 2022 editions of the Asian Cup and the ICC World T20, the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma is also aiming for the last place in the Test World Championship. First runners-up in last year’s World Test Championship, the Indian team are ahead of Pakistan, England and New Zealand in the current ICC World Test Championship standings for the 2021-2023 season. However, the Asian giants are not in pole position to secure their place for the clash at the top of the Test World Championship.

The team coached by Rahul Dravid is ranked fourth in the latest World Test Championship standings. The team led by Rohit will host Australia in the 2023 edition of the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India may miss out on qualifying for the final if the hosts are outclassed by the Baggy Greens in the 2023 Test Series.

Sharing a video on his YouTube channel, India’s former fly-half Aakash Chopra explained India’s qualifying scenario for the World Test Championship final. “Australia will play four Tests against India. If India beat them 4-0 they will go up the standings. They will have to go up otherwise they will be in a precarious situation. Then Australia will play some Tests against West Indies . at home, which they will win and then host South Africa for three Tests,” Chopra said.

With a points percentage of 52.08, Team India is behind Sri Lanka, Australia and South Africa. Chopra estimated that the Indian team will have to beat Australia 4-0 at home to increase their chances of qualifying for the final. “India just need to win 4-0 against Australia when they host them next year. They also have two Tests to play away against Bangladesh. Winning six out of six will be incredibly difficult. But let’s assume that “They did. Even then, 68% is the maximum we can achieve,” Chopra added.
