Facundo Pellistri can’t express how he feels after World Cup qualification

It looks like Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri will be taking part in his first World Cup.

Uruguay booked their place at the 2022 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Peru last night.

Giorgan de Arrascaeta’s first-half winner put the Uruguayans in a favorable position with one game to play in their qualifying campaign.

Manchester United starlet Facundo Pellistri, who is currently on loan at Alaves, has started his third consecutive international match.

Without wanting to discredit the right winger, it’s bizarre that he starts for his country when at Alaves he only managed 10 minutes in the whole of 2022. They have to note that because United striker Edinson Cavani only made one substitute appearance.

Pellistri got 84 minutes against Peru and performed his defensive duties perfectly.

Uruguay had to dig in and anchor the win and Pellistri played a key role in that, albeit from an attacking position.

The 20-year-old had three successful tackles and four ball recoveries.

After the game, Pellistri took to social media and admitted it was hard to know how he felt after securing his World Cup qualification: “It’s hard to put into words what I’m feeling right now. Today we all played it, and all of us got the ranking we were waiting for. When Uruguay plays at three million… always”

Pellistri has a lot to look forward to this year but it will be interesting to see if he leaves on loan or stays at United next season.

It would be fair to say that his current La Liga loan spell hasn’t worked out.
