Nottingham Forest are now in pole position to sign Liverpool defender Neco Williams this summer, according to a report from 90min.

The lowdown: hot property

The product of a thriving academy system at Liverpool in recent years, Williams has come through the ranks on Merseyside and has already proven he has an abundance of talent.

On loan at Fulham for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, the 21-year-old Welshman has continued to impress and played a vital role in the Londoners’ charge to the league title.

Now, with opportunities likely to be scarce at Anfield, Southampton, Fulham and Forest have all been pegged to make a swoop to sign Williams this summer…

The last: Forest in ‘post’

According to 90 Minutes, Nottingham Forest have now usurped their rival suitors for the Welsh starlet to 21 caps.

The Reds are claimed to be ‘in pole position to sign’ Williams as Fulham turn their attention to Wolfsburg right-back Kevin Mbabu.

The report also states that Steve Cooper is ‘looking to replace the likely Tottenham-linked Djed Spence’, and the Liverpool youngster has been hailed as ‘without fear’ by Henry Winter of The Times after an excellent goalscoring performance against Belarus is the chosen target.

Verdict: Fingers crossed

Provided no rivals are watching, completing the talented Welshman’s move would be a superb deal from the City Ground hierarchy.

Able to play on both flanks and even in more advanced positions, last season Williams earned an exceptional Sofascore rating of 7.24 while making 1.6 clearances, completing 1.0 key passes and winning 6, 0 duels per game in the Championship – a higher duel result than Spence, who had 5.8 successful battles while on loan at Forest from Middlesbrough.

Already enjoying an impressive trophy-laden career despite his tender years, the £7.2m right-back would arrive in Cooper’s squad with the top-flight experience under his belt to produce from the start and have all the required. attributes to thrive under his compatriot, whom he knows from their time together at Liverpool.
