Fraser Forster’s incredible Celtic claim despite his refusal

Fraser Forster has an interesting history with Celtic, to say the least. There is no doubt that he has been fantastic for the club during his two spells at Parkhead and most fans recognize him as one of the best goalkeepers they have seen play for the Hoops. But at the same time, the manner of his exit the second time around left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans.

Forster had returned to Celtic on a season-long loan from Southampton in the summer of 2019 and had played a big part in their success. The club then attempted to bring him back for the following campaign as well, but it emerged the Englishman had turned down the chance.

Celtic would go on to sign Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens instead and we all know how things went from there.

But despite refusing to return to Celtic, Forster admitted he would be a lifelong supporter. As reported by the Daily Record, while speaking with Sky Sports about the recent Glasgow Derby, he said:

“I watched it, I watched them all. I loved my time at Celtic and I will be a lifelong supporter. It’s a huge result.

Forster has admitted he will be a lifelong Celtic supporter

Now it’s understandable why fans were disappointed when Forster turned down the chance to return to be part of the 10IAR campaign.

But at the same time, he is a professional footballer and that must also be taken into account. Eventually his decision to stay at Southampton paid off and he is once again the first-choice goalkeeper for the Saints.

On the other hand, Celtic pulled off a transfer masterstroke this summer by signing Joe Hart from Tottenham Hotspur. Not only did the Manchester City legend prove to be an excellent goalkeeper for the Hoops, but he was also an incredible leader.
