Joe Hart makes an interesting claim about Gareth Bale in Spurs training last season

Joe Hart has lifted the lid on what it was like to train with Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur last season.

The 2020-21 campaign saw Hart arrive at Spurs on a free transfer, while Bale joined Tottenham on loan.

Bale returned to N17 to much fanfare, having spent many successful and trophy-laden years at Real Madrid.

The Welshman has since fallen out of favor at the Bernabeu, hence his temporary return to Tottenham.

Bale’s second stint at Spurs was quite mixed.

He had 16 goals and three assists in 34 appearances, but he also struggled at times through lack of form and injury.

Meanwhile, Hart made 10 appearances for Tottenham and was an excellent assistant for Hugo Lloris.

The England keeper is now at Celtic, while Bale is back at Real and still surplus to requirements.

However, the Welsh star remains linked with a return to N17.

“He’s a legend, a superstar”

Speaking on the latest episode of the In the Stiffs podcast, Hart gave insight into what it was like to train with Bale.

He claimed the 32-year-old ‘doesn’t quite trust his body’ and wasn’t going to put his body on the line.

Nonetheless, Hart also said that when things clicked, Bale was absolutely exceptional.

“Gaz is exceptional,” said the 34-year-old. “You know how it is, laid back is an understatement.

“But in there, he also protects himself.

“He was definitely hurt by what happened in Madrid and anyone would be. He’s a legend, a superstar, and for some reason the whole place turned against him.

“So he was a little out of the way and hurt, but there were days when suddenly you could tell he felt comfortable with his body.

“He doesn’t quite trust his body. He’s very aware of feelings and he knows and has gotten to a point in his career where he’s not going to tear or twist a hamstring for anybody.

“He’s exceptional and there were days when you were like ‘phwoar’ but then something happened in his body where he felt good and he was exceptional.”
