Journalist hears ‘important’ claim from Celtic Park

Journalist Dean Jones shared the feelings inside Celtic following their move for Oliver Abildgaard.

The Lowdown: Summer Affairs

The Hoops have been extremely busy this summer, adding nine players to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Last season’s loan moves for Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda have been made permanent, while Alexandro Bernabei and Sead Haksabanovic have also arrived in seven-figure deals.

Aaron Mooy and Benjamin Siegrist were brought on free and Moritz Jenz and Abildgaard were signed on loan, the latter being the Premiership champions’ latest summer addition.

The latest: Jones’ comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport in a story shared on Saturday night, Jones said Celtic were “quite excited” by Abildgaard’s arrival and that Hoops officials view the move as “significant”.

The journalist said:

“They’re very excited about it (signing Abildgaard). They think it’s particularly important given the intensity of their season.

“They have a really tough Champions League group, which you can’t expect to get out of, but you want to be competitive. And I think that’s key, to make sure they have a team that can handle that.

Will Abildgaard be a good signing for Celtic?

The verdict: the smart signature

Abildgaard seems like a wise and necessary addition to Parkhead. The 26-year-old can play as a central or defensive midfielder and has even played wide and as a central defender. [Transfermarkt]

Celtic lost an experienced all-rounder to Nir Bitton in the summer, so it looks like Abildgaard will fill the void left by the Israel international, who could come in handy in what will be a busy campaign for Ange Postecoglou’s side , in particular with Real Madrid will play the group stage of the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
