England Under-21 boss Lee Carsley called Oliver Skipp very underrated and insisted the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder will improve – in comments reported by Football London .
Skipp has had a fantastic start to the campaign. Of course, he entered the season following a brilliant spell on loan with Norwich.
He has been a key part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And he seems to have established himself as a member of Spurs’ strongest squad.
He is now gone with the young people of the Three Lions. And he clearly has a big fan at Carsley, with the Under-21 boss describing how impressed he was with the Tottenham academy graduate.
“I’ve known Oli for a while. He is very underestimated, ”he said, as reported by Football London. “He’s one of those players who, when they’re not on the squad, gets noticed. He takes care of his own affairs very well. Work on his game. I think he still has a lot of development to do.
“He’s going to get better, he’s going to get stronger. Physically, he will improve as he gets older. He has exceptional abilities and I’m sure Tottenham see him as we have over the years. “
Tottenham fans might be a long way from learning the full potential of Oliver Skipp
Carsley went on to insist that it was not excluded that Skipp would be part of the England squad for next year’s World Cup.
It’s a huge statement. But for now, it looks like there is no way to exclude the 21-year-old from the race.
It is growing in power from year to year. Skipp was one of the best players in the league last season.
He now looks extremely impressive for Spurs in the Premier League. And he only has to look at how Kalvin Phillips went from championship player to key man for Gareth Southgate’s squad in less than 12 months for inspiration.
There is work to be done for Skipp. But he seems to have the kind of personality where he won’t be complacent.
