Man fools 50 rupee lakhs with easy loan application

Police at MHB settlement in Borivali arrested a 43-year-old man who allegedly deceived more than 50 people to the tune of several lakhs by promising them easy car loans. The defendant, identified as Ashok Shinde aka Sunil Patil, had swindled people over the past two years, police said.

Shinde used to set up fake online accounts on Just Dial and advertise the “hassle-free” purchase of cars and loans on behalf of Shivam Motor Cars located in Kandivali.

In November 2013, police in the MHB settlement received a complaint from a merchant navy officer, Christopher D’Çosta against Shinde. The cops quickly discovered that several complaints had been filed against Shinde in Andheri and Kandivali.

Jaivijay Bodke, MHB Colony Police API, said: “D’Costa approached Shinde for a car loan after seeing the ad. As he showed D’Costa fake loan documents, he arranged for the merchant navy officer to transfer Rs2.8 lakh to his account and promised to have the car delivered in 10 days. ” But D’Costa never received the car. When he went to his office he found it was locked.

Bodke said they started tracking Shinde’s cell phone and managed to catch him on Wednesday. He resides in Malwani, where he lives with his family.
