Celtic will be keen to bounce back from their shock loss to St Mirren in their previous league game, which was a 2-0 defeat at Paisley. It was a result no one could have seen coming, especially since the Hoops had won every domestic game before this game. It does, however, mean their lead at the top has been reduced to just two points, with Rangers catching up.
Of course, there are Celtic fans who are a bit concerned about the club’s run at the moment. They haven’t won in the three games since beating Rangers 4-0 in the first Glasgow Derby of the season.
They’ve lost twice and drawn once, and perhaps even more worrying is their terrible form in front of goal. Celtic have only managed to find the back of the net once in these last three games. And that too was an own goal. Thus, they have to make it work fast.
Motherwell star Matt Penney, on loan from Ipswich Town, seems to believe they can get a result against Celtic at the weekend, despite coming off a 3-0 loss to Hearts themselves. As reported by the Daily Record, the lender said:
“With the way we played against Hearts, if we can iron out those details, there’s no reason why we can’t go to Celtic and perform there, and set foot in the league.
“It will be a great game for the neutral, but with the boys in the dressing room and the manager, there’s no reason we can’t go there and get a result.”
Motherwell star makes huge claim before facing Celtic despite losing 3-0 to Hearts
It’s safe to say that’s a confident statement from the player even though his team just suffered a big defeat in their previous game. It will be interesting to see if they can back him up on the pitch next time around.
Motherwell are not in good form and have not won in their last three games in the league.
Celtic fans will be hoping the Hoops have enough in the tank to secure a home win over Motherwell to get things back on track.
