Premier League-linked Super Eagles star faces final hurdle to European qualification

Another successful season in the German top flight promises European qualification

Taiwo Awoniyi’s Union Berlin are one game away from securing their place in the UEFA Europa League for next season.

Union had an outstanding season by their standards, beating city rivals Hertha Berlin in the league and securing their place among the league’s best for the second time in a row.

Currently 6th in the standings, helped by Taiwo Awoniyi’s record 13 goals, the capital club are aiming for a last day win over VFL Bochum to seal their place in the Europa League for the second consecutive season.

They have already booked a place in Europe, with the Europa Conference League being the worst situation for Union.

Awoniyi was on loan at Union last season and has helped the Iron Ones this season after making a permanent switch at the start of the season.

As Premier League interest intensifies, particularly from London where West Ham have been linked, Awoniyi is currently aiming to help the Union secure another Europa League qualification.

He is revered at the club and already has a song with Union Berlin fans and is quickly becoming a respected cult hero at the club.
