Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is in talks with Nottingham Forest over a summer loan deal, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Lowdown: Henderson out of favor
There was hope at one point that Henderson would replace David De Gea as United’s first-choice goalkeeper, with the latter struggling to return to his best form in 2020/21.
The Spaniard roared last season, however, emerging as one of his side’s best performers, limiting his team-mate between the sticks to just three starts in all competitions.
It now looks like Henderson will pass this summer and a key update has appeared in that regard.
The last one: the forest is getting closer
Take from Twitter On Thursday, Romano claimed talks are ongoing and a loan move could be agreed in the near future:
Dean Henderson deal update. Talks also underway today between Man United and Nottingham Forest, not yet agreed on value of option to buy clause so it can be removed .
“The deal could be concluded on a simple loan. Work in progress.
The verdict: perfectly logical
At 25, Henderson is now at a point in his career where he needs to start regular games – he’s too good a goalkeeper to warm up the substitutes’ bench every week.
Is Maguire good enough for Manchester United?
Yeah, he’s just having a bad time!
No, he has to go!
This will be the case at United currently, so a summer exit makes perfect sense and Forest seem absolutely ideal, following their promotion to the Premier League.
Their current stopper Brice Samba looks likely to move on after failing to agree a new deal, which would pave the way for Henderson to be their No.1 next season. A permanent move further down the line could then be ideal for all sides, should he impress at the City Ground.
