Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has provided an update on Steven Bergwijn’s future at Tottenham with Ajax keen on the winger, Give Me Sport report.
The Lowdown: Claiming the “Final Stages”
Bergwijn has started just three Premier League appearances this season and is currently sidelined with a calf problem.
How many signings should Conte make in January?
Antonio Conte and Daniel Levy are apparently ready to greenlight a North London to go out for the reliable 24-year-old journalist, Bridge now has a say.
The latest: Bridge’s comments
Bridge, speaking to Give Me Sport, revealed that there have indeed been talks between Spurs and Ajax.
He says Tottenham are unwilling to accept a £15m offer, especially with Levy who forked out £27m two years ago.
“We know an offer has come in from Ajax. I understand there’s been some talk whether it’s a £15m offer or a loan with bond. buy in the summer at a price closer to the fee Tottenham wants.
“I know Tottenham won’t accept £15m, but that’s the offer they got from Ajax.”
The verdict: understandable
An addition to Jose Mourinho, it’s safe to say that Bergwijn has failed to live up to expectations in England following a big-money transfer from PSV.
He has scored just five goals in 64 appearances, with Conte yet to start the Premier League wide man. It doesn’t seem like the Spurs boss is a big fan of Bergwijn, however, Spurs still need to get the best possible deal when it comes to selling.
Hopefully they can recoup the majority of the £27m they spent on the player, but to do so they need to negotiate with Ajax following a rumored £15m offer.
